British company Cool Technologies has unveiled a car seat
that wraps a child in a protective bubble and calls emergency services. The
Carkoon is made of Kevlar, the same material used in body armor. In an
accident, it deploys a Kevlar and fireproof Nomex air bag. The air bag covers
the entire seat and can withstand impact from flying objects. A transmitter
signals emergency services with GPS coordinates and details of the accident.
The Carkoon could go on sale as early as next year and will sell for about £499.
CARKOON CHILD SEAT CONCEPT UNVEILED TO MEDIA:
Media interest in the Carkoon® car seat took off this week as inventor Jullian Preston-Powers unveiled the concept model.
The Carkoon® is a rear-facing baby seat that features a sliding protective shell made from Kevlar and fireproof Nomex, which is capable of keeping a child safe for up to 18 minutes in the event of a blaze. The Carkoon® also contains a transmitter that alerts emergency services with the exact GPS location of the child – giving vital extra information for any rescue effort.
